​Introduction 
Tuina (pronounced "twee nah") or Chinese remedial massage, is one of the four main branches of traditional Chinese medicine. However, though its roots in china are ancient, it is still relatively new to west. Archaeological studies have dated the use of Tuina back to around 3,000 BC, making it the grandmother of all forms of massage and body work that exist today.

Like acupuncture, Tuina works by applying pressure to acupoints meridians and group of muscles or nerves to remove blockages that prevent the free flow of Chi/Qi and to harmonies Yin and Yang in the body. It is generally used for removing theses blockage  to restores the balance of Chi/Qi in the body, leading to improved health and vitality.

To perform Tuina , the practitioner uses a variety of hand techniques to manipulate the soft tissue of the body. It also employs acupressure to redirect the flow of Chi/Qi in the body and  to realign the bones and muscles in the body for optimal alignment. The aim of this massage is to address muscle tension using a treatment plan to re-balance any misaligned bones or joints, and improve the blood flow to the affected areas.

What to expect on your first visit?
Tuina differs from other forms of massage in that it is used to treat specific illness of an internal natural as well as muscular skeletal ailments. Becoming a Tuina practitioner  needs a thorough knowledge of the theoretical principle of Chinese medicine and its channel system and points, a knowledge of western anatomy, physiology and pathology, and the ability to perform a rang of manual techniques according to TCM pattern diagnosis.

A typical Tuina session, at Chi Balance Acupuncture Clinic, the client remains clothed but wears loose clothing ,and lies on a table or sits on  a chair. Tuina practitioner examines the specific problems of the client and begins to apply a specific treatment protocol . The practitioners may use Chinese herbs to facilitate quicker healing. Session last from 45 minutes to 1 hour. the client usually feels relaxed but energized by the treatment.
